Race to raise $30,000 will directly benefit local cancer patients

—Thanks to the efforts of the sales staff at a local car dealership, cancer patients and their families throughout San Luis Obispo County will benefit from programs and services through funds donated to the Cancer Support Community – CA Central Coast.

The campaign – dubbed Race to Raise $30,000 – was launched in early October and, to date, has raised $16,000. The brainchild of General Sales Manager Heath Shepherd, the fundraiser involves Paso Robles Ford donating $100 to CSC for every new vehicle sold until the full $30,000 is raised.

“My mom passed away from cancer when I was young,” said Shepherd. “It was a confusing time and I’ve always wanted to find a way to help others that may be going through something similar to what my family experienced. With the visibility of Paso Robles Ford in our community, I found a way to combine my job with helping others and, thanks to our amazing customers that purchase cars during this campaign, we are able to support our local Cancer Support Community.”

“I am thrilled about Paso Robles Ford raising money for our organization,” said CSC Executive Director Shannon D’Acquisto. “When I was told that they are already more than half-way to their goal I was blown away! This is a unique opportunity for a great local car dealership to help our patients and their families at Cancer Support Community.”

According to Shepherd, it’s all about bringing attention to a local organization that provides programs, support, education, social interaction, and various resources to cancer patients. All funds stay in the local community, something Shepherd said was important to him when creating the fundraiser. The mission of Cancer Support Community is to ensure that all people touched by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community.

“In addition to raising funds, our Race to Raise $30,000 is a way to encourage community members and local businesses to support a local non-profit, get involved, and see what Cancer Support Community is all about,” said Shepherd. “This is our way of bringing attention and support to an organization that is vital to our local community.”
