Update: Paso Robles resident dies after Highway 154 car crash

–Paso Robles resident, Katrina Sue Cummings, has died after she crashed her car on Highway 154 after swerving to avoid hitting a dead donkey on the road.

Cummings was critically injured and suffered multiple skull fractures after being ejected from her vehicle after impact from the crash and died on Sunday, says CHP.

Roll over incident after donkey hit and killed on Highway 154 near Foxen Canyon Road

–Paso Robles resident, Katrina Sue Cummings, 53, suffered major head injuries when she swerved to avoid hitting a donkey in the road and crashed on Highway 154 near Foxen Canyon Road early Saturday.

Cummings was driving west on Highway 154 near Los Olivos about 5:35 a.m. when she swerved to avoid the donkey and her 2004 Toyota Tundra overturned, CHP says. Cummings, who was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from her pickup truck, was taken to a hospital with multiple skull fractures, according to the CHP.

The donkey had just been hit by another car before Cummings came upon it, according to the CHP. Peter Franklin, 24, of Solvang also was driving west on Highway 154 when his 2016 Jeep struck the donkey in the road just east of Foxen Canyon Road. Franklin wasn’t injured, subsequent investigation determined that the Jeep had been reported stolen, according to reports He was arrested on charges of possessing a stolen vehicle.

The crash is under investigation by the CHP.
