‘Paving Train’ works on Spring Street
Paso Robles Capital Projects Engineer Ditas Esperanza shared an update on the improvements underway on Spring Street. She said the city is paving Spring Street using a “Paving Train.”
“The “train” picks up old asphalt from the street surface, puts it through the crusher unit, then it is mixed with emulsion and lime and then spits it out the back and uses the recycled material for paving,” Esperanza said. The train is followed by a paving machine and roller.
Fog seal and sand will be placed on the CIR (Cold-in-place Recycled) mat and then traffic can drive on top, and then a final surface will then be placed after the CIT mat has cured, according to Esperanza.
“This is a 100% recycling method and should get the city ‘green house gas emission’ credits,” she said.
