Paso Robles Joint Unified School District launches new website

New website easier to use, mobile responsive

Paso Robles Joint Unified School District logo–Paso Robles Joint Unified School District (PRJUSD) launched its new website last week. The launch of the new site is another step toward increasing communication with parents and community members, according to the district. The new site is easier to use, informative, mobile-responsive, and has several features that will be great tools for parents.

Discussion about modernizing the district’s website began in October as a part of the PRJUSD Communications Plan. The plan highlighted the importance of consistency among school sites and the ability to have information updated regularly. In order to achieve that, each school site has a designated web lead who is responsible for maintaining the school’s website. District departments also maintain their own sections on the district website. All of the web leads, school secretaries, and district department representatives, over 50 people in total, received training.

Public Information Officer Martha Clayton said the district had been working since March to move content and prepare the site for launch. “We had to go through the old site, update any old forms and documents, and make sure that we had everything necessary to make a reasonably smooth transition to the new site.” As with any website, says Clayton, the goal is to have current information that can be found quickly and easily. She believes that the new site does just that.

A few highlights of the new website include:

  • Every school has its own website that follows the same template as the district site. All of the school sites can be accessed through the district site by clicking on “select a school” at the top of the district page.
  • Anyone can register as a user (parents, teachers, community members, etc.) on the website. Registered users can select which sites or pages to receive notifications when sites are updated.
  • The “calendar view” can be personalized, this is a great tool for parents who have children at different schoolsites. Go to calendar, click on customize calendar view, click calendar edit (pencil icon), click add/remove. From there, select the desired site(s) or other areas.
  • Another great feature about the calendar is the ability to subscribe to any or all of the calendars and have them sync to a smart phone. This is done by selecting the green ical icon located in the top right of the calendar page.

The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District is committed to keeping all of its stakeholders informed of district news and events. In February, the district started a weekly newsletter called “The Vine.” The community can also follow the district on social media via Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. The website will continue to be further developed throughout the summer and a free mobile app should be available to parents in the fall.
