Senator writes legislation to create end-of-life option phone line
–Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) introduced Senate Bill 1002 Thursday, which will require the California Department of Public Health to establish a toll-free telephone number to receive and respond to questions about California’s aid-in-dying law.
“I have received a large number of inquiries from both the medical community and the general public about the implementation of the End of Life Option Act,” Monning said. “As California moves forward to implement this pioneering law, it is important that there is a resource available to patients, doctors, or anyone who is interested in learning how the new law works.”
The End of Life Option Act provides mentally-capable, terminally-ill Californians with the option to request a doctor’s prescription for aid-in-dying medication.
