Highway 46 traffic switch cancelled

Update: A traffic switch scheduled to begin on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 10 p.m. on Hwy. 46 East from east of Almond Drive to east of McMillan Canyon Road was cancelled due to rain and will be rescheduled to a later date.

roadsOriginal report: The widening of Highway 46 East from east of Almond Drive to east of McMillan Canyon Road will result in a temporary traffic switch beginning Thursday, Nov. 13 at 10 p.m., Caltrans reports. The switch will be in effect for about a year, a Caltrans spokesman says.

This traffic switch will result in motorists traveling on a single lane in each direction on what will eventually become the newly constructed two westbound lanes and will allow for reconstruction to proceed on what will eventually become the two eastbound lanes, the report says.

The widening of this phase of Hwy. 46 began in late summer of 2012 and is expected to be completed in the fall of 2015. The contractor for this $38 million dollar project is Papich Construction of Pismo Beach, CA.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.
