Construction along Highway 101 near King City continues
–Crews will begin removing the existing asphalt concrete overlay down to the concrete bridge deck on the northbound US 101 Salinas River Bridge, requiring a continuous lane closure for about 48 to 72 hours until work is completed in both lanes, starting Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 5 am.
Roadwork will start with the #1 (left) lane, then switch to the #2 (right) lane—each lane will be completed before opening and one lane will be available to traffic at all times.
When working in the #2 (right) lane, the northbound onramp at Broadway Street will also be closed (up to 36 hours) with a detour in place until roadwork is completed.
This ½-mile operation is part of an ongoing construction project to rehabilitate 10.5 miles of US 101 which includes pavement upgrades, installing a concrete median barrier, seismic retrofitting and widening the Salinas River Bridge. The overall project extends from south of Wild Horse Road to Teague Avenue in King City. Traffic will remain in this configuration for several months while the existing concrete pavement in the left lane and shoulder are removed and replaced.
Roadwork for most of the project will take place Monday through Thursday from 4:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. No weekend or holiday roadwork is planned.
A 55 MPH work zone speed limit remains in effect with CHP enforcement.
Motorists can expect delays of up to 20 minutes during peak volumes. Temporary detours will be used for ramp work. No two consecutive ramps will be closed at the same time. Electronic message signs will be posted alerting the traveling public of this project.
The contractor for this $78 million project is OHL, USA of Irvine, CA and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022.
