Woman dies in Hwy 46 accident on Christmas day
California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a fatal accident east of Paso Robles in Lost Hills, CA. The accident left a 50-year-old woman dead on Christmas Day, CHP reports.
The CHP report said the accident happened Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 46 and Holloway Road. The victim, Sheila Gates, of Watsonville, Calif. died as a result of her injuries.
A 19-year-old Riverside woman was driving a white 2013 BMW southbound on Holloway Road approaching Highway 46 at about 80 miles per hour, according to the CHP. The 19-year-old ran a stop sign and struck a silver 2003 GMC driven by the victim’s husband, Phillip Gates, who was driving westbound on Highway 46 approaching Holloway Road, CHP report. He suffered major injuries and was transported to a Kern County hospital.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the accident, CHP reports.
