This is necessary to know not only to understand what is happening on the field, but also to understand betting terms.

    General Baseball Rules

    • Backstop

    This is a protective structure that stands outside the field to protect spectators.

    • Barehanded

    In baseball slang, this is the name given to a player who catches the ball with his bare hand.

    • Big Leagues

    Term meaning Major League Baseball.

    • Bullpen

    Warm-up area for pitchers and catchers.

    • Eject

    Disqualification of a player for unsportsmanlike conduct.

    • Extra Out

    This is the name for a situation in which a team makes an error, giving their opponents an extra out.

    • Fastball Happy

    A pitcher who relies on his fastball too much.

    • Five o’clock hitter

    A striker who shows excellent results during training, but during the game the opposite is true.

    • Gem

    A good pitching game where there are no hits and no runs.

    • Hat Trick

    Three outs in quick succession.

    • In-Play

    This is said when the game continues after the referee says, “play ball”.

    • In the Books

    The term is used when the game is over.

    • Jake

    This is the name given to the player’s insufficient efforts during the game.

    • Keep off the Boards

    When players take certain actions to prevent their opponents from scoring a goal.

    Submission conditions

    Any game begins with the serve, so novice players simply need to know the conditions and terms that are associated with this stage of the game.

    • Ace

    This term applies to the best pitchers on a team who start as the first pitchers in the rotation.

    • Balk

    This is the name given to an umpire’s action when a pitcher on one team pretends to commit a task while deceiving the other team’s runners. This action is contrary to the rules, so in this case the judge declares a block, that is, a block.

    • Battery

    This is the name given to a team consisting of a pitcher and a catcher.

    • Curveball

    This is a ball that rotates and changes its trajectory. This type of serve can confuse your opponent, as it is not so easy to predict where the ball will land.

    • Manager

    This is the second or relief pitcher who joins the game to replace the starting pitcher.

    • Southpaw

    A left-handed pitcher is called a left-handed pitcher in baseball slang because the pitcher’s left arm points south.

    Batting conditions

    The following rules and terms apply to batting. This is the next step that a beginner must study to understand the process of the game.

    • Ahead in count

    This term is used to refer to who has the advantage in a game – the pitcher or the batter.

    • Basic Strike

    This is said when the batter manages to reach 1st base after hitting the ball and before it is thrown out.

    • Blooper

    A weak hit that falls between outfielders and infielders.

    • Bunt

    A weak hit that was made deliberately to change the positions of the players.

    • Caught Looking

    A term used when a batter takes a 3rd strike without swinging.

    • Clear databases

    When a player cleared teammates’ bases by making a strong hit.

    • Choke-up

    When the hitter changes the position of his hands on the bat and raises them higher to increase the chance of contacting the ball.

    • Fly Ball

    A ball that flew very high.

    • Hit and run

    This describes a situation where the runner is trying to pick up the ball and the batter is trying to hit the ball.

    • Home Run

    Many people have heard this term many times. It means kicking the ball out of bounds.

    • Rake

    This is the name given to a batter who hits the ball very hard.

    • Single

    This is what is called after a batter hits the ball and reaches first base with no outs.
