Reminder: Fireworks prohibited in Paso Robles
City hosting free 4th of July event with fireworks at Barney Schwartz Park
– Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services remind residents that all fireworks, including “safe and sane” varieties, are prohibited in the city of Paso Robles.
As Americans celebrate the 4th of July holiday with family, friends, and fireworks, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Chair Alex Hoehn-Saric emphasizes the dangers. “While it is a great American tradition to enjoy fireworks around the Fourth of July, it is important to remember that all fireworks, even sparklers, pose dangers. The safest way to view fireworks is to watch professional displays,” Hoehn-Saric said.
A report by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) finds a significant upward trend in fireworks-related injuries. For 2023, CPSC received reports of eight deaths and an estimated 9,700 injuries involving fireworks. Of the eight deaths, five were associated with firework misuse, two with a device malfunction, and one involved unknown circumstances.
This year, the city of Paso Robles is increasing enforcement. Paso Robles police officers and firefighters will use aerial device technology with GPS and video capabilities to pinpoint the locations where fireworks are used. Citations of up to $1,000 will be issued to those caught setting off fireworks.
Residents are encouraged to celebrate the 4th of July without using consumer fireworks. The city of Paso Robles, along with Travel Paso and private sponsors, is hosting a free 4th of July celebration at Barney Schwartz Park from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., with a fireworks show beginning at 9:20 p.m.
