– The Paso Robles City Library Book Group will continue its summer travel adventures with a discussion of “Bicycling with Butterflies: My 10,201-mile journey following the Monarch Migration,” by Sara Dykman. The discussion will focus on Dykman’s solo bike trip along the migratory path of the monarch butterfly, a journey covering more than 10,000 miles across three countries.

In her book, Dykman recounts her historic ride as the first person to bicycle alongside monarch butterflies during their annual migration. The journey, accomplished on a bike made from used parts, navigated unmapped roads in foreign countries. Dykman checked roadside milkweed for monarch eggs and shared her experiences with schoolchildren, bar patrons, and border officials. The book highlights the support she received from citizen scientists, researchers, farmers, and city dwellers, and emphasizes the urgency of saving the threatened monarch migration and other natural systems.
The title is available in the BlackGold system.
The discussion will be held at the Paso Robles City Library on Wednesday, July 24, from 5:30 – 7 p.m.
