    – Fewer than two years after he was drafted 8th in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft, Brooks Lee is starting with the Minnesota Twins. More importantly, he’s playing well.

Brooks was drafted out of Cal Poly, after a remarkable career playing for his dad, Cal Poly head coach Larry Lee. Brooks graduated from San Luis Obispo High School. He was recruited by major colleges throughout his high school career. He also played for US Teams in his youth, playing against Cuban, Mexican and other international teams. This week, the Twins brought him up to replace third baseman Royce Lee, who is injured.

In his first major league game on Wednesday, Lee went 2-4 at the plate. On the 4th of July, he hit 1-2 with a walk. Friday, he went 3-5 in a losing effort for the Twins. The Twins lost that game to the Astros 13-12. So, after his first 11 at bats in the major leagues, Brooks Lee is hitting .546.

Lee hit .351 in three seasons with the Cal Poly Mustangs. Brooks attracted attention from the scouts during his college summer baseball career. He hit .405 in the wooden bat Cape Cod League.

Although Lee played shortstop at Cal Poly and for most of his career, the Twins moved him to third base to replace Royce Lewis. Ironically, Lee is named after Brooks Robinson, the legendary infielder who played 3rd base for the Baltimore Orioles.

Lee was drafted #8 by the Twins in the first round of the Major League Draft in 2022. The Twins gave him a signing bonus of $5.675 million dollars. It’s beginning to look like a good investment.
