The Carano family who are well-renowned for their significant stake in Caesars Entertainment (as well as their legacy in the wine industry) have listed their picturesque Sonoma County vineyard for sale at $7.975 million. It comes at a time when worldwide casino profits are higher than ever, with many gamblers opting to stay at home and gamble online.

In terms of online gambling in California in particular, as Jonathan Askew explains, the legality is somewhat of a gray area, so offshore casinos are providing entertainment for the hundreds of thousands of keen bettors in the Golden State. Packed with bonuses, 24/7 customer service, and almost instant sign-ups, these online casinos might not directly be responsible for the Carano family’s accumulated wealth, but they certainly reflect a shifting landscape in the gambling industry – one that may be contributing to the family’s decision to diversify their assets.

The 97-acre property, nestled near the vibrant town of Healdsburg, holds a rich history aptly coinciding with the family’s entrepreneurial journey. Purchased in 1981 by the late Don Carano and his wife Rhonda, the vineyard served as the birthplace of their first winery, laying the foundation for what would later become the acclaimed Ferrari-Carano Vineyards & Winery.

The couple’s passion for winemaking blossomed on this very land, where they cultivated award-winning vintages that garnered national recognition.

As somewhat of a visionary entrepreneur, Don Carano not only established himself in the wine industry but also became a big name in the gaming world. He co-founded Eldorado Resorts, which, in 2020, merged with Caesars Entertainment. This was a shrewd move that would solidify his family’s position as the largest non-institutional shareholders in the casino giant.

However, the Carano family’s focus has shifted in recent years. In 2019, they sold a majority of their wine-related assets, including the Ferrari-Carano brand, to Foley Family Wines. Following Don Carano’s passing in 2021, Rhonda Carano found herself spending less time at the Sonoma estate. This was the catalyst for the decision to put the property on the market.

The vineyard comes with charming roaming hills, expansive views, and fertile soil, which, for the price, is a steal for any buyer. It boasts a charming 4,595-square-foot residence, offering a serene retreat amidst the vineyards. Additionally, the property includes a 1,295-square-foot guest house, ensuring there’s ample space for friends and family alike.

But beyond its value as a prime wine-growing estate, the vineyard’s location is something truly special. Healdsburg is a renowned wine country destination that has a populous culinary scene, world-class wineries (of course), and a burgeoning luxury hospitality sector. The town is currently witnessing the development of several high-end resorts with the aim of attracting both travelers and investors.

The property is expected to draw a lot of attention and attract a new generation of visionaries who will, it is hoped, be eager to continue the tradition of excellence established by the Carano family. Whether it be a seasoned vintner seeking to expand their portfolio or an investor with an eye for development potential, the vineyard promises to be a coveted prize in the competitive Sonoma County real estate market.

But until such a time that it is taken into others’ capable hands, the Sonoma County vineyard stands solely as a testament to the Carano family’s enduring legacy: A reminder of their contributions to the world of wine and their unwavering commitment to excellence.

Its sale marks a turning point, not only for the family but also for the region, as it welcomes a new chapter in its rich history tapestry.
