Organization to honor impactful Hispanic community members with new award
Mujeres de Acción seeks nominees for Hispanic of the Year
– Mujeres de Acción, a local grassroots organization, has announced the introduction of the inaugural Hispanic of the Year Award. The award aims to recognize the contributions of Hispanic residents in San Luis Obispo County.
“Hispanic residents of SLO County do so much to make our communities livable, raise the next generation, and achieve the American Dream,” said Yessenia Echevarria, founder and executive director of Mujeres de Acción. “We are honoring them at this celebration so they can know their hard work and sacrifices are appreciated.”
Residents are encouraged to nominate community members who have made a significant impact, including entrepreneurs, teachers, mentors, first responders, and those who provide community service. Selection criteria will include years of service, community impact, and the volume of nominations.
The winner will be announced the week before the Hispanic Heritage Festival, which is scheduled for Sept. 15 at Paso Robles Downtown Park. The festival will feature local vendors, community resources, dancing, and music. The first 100 attendees to sign up on the Eventbrite page will receive a surprise goody bag.
“We’re excited to see many of our community members join us for this joyous celebration,” said Brenda Campoverde, program director of Mujeres de Acción. “We look forward to seeing the great stories in our community and learning more about our neighbors.”
