Grant will fund studies on methane reutilization for energy generation and potential solar panel installation at the landfill

    – The California Energy Commission has awarded the City of Paso Robles Solid Waste Division a $100,000 planning grant to explore converting methane into electricity and installing solar panels on closed landfill sections. The Paso Robles City Council approved the grant award resolution on Aug. 6.

The California Clean Energy Planning Program grant aims to assist jurisdictions in exploring clean energy opportunities. The grant will fund studies on methane reutilization for energy generation and potential solar panel installation at the landfill.

“The city will be looking to utilize this funding to explore clean energy opportunities at the landfill, including methane reutilization for energy generation and possible solar installation,” Solid Waste and Recycling Manager Adam Spaulding said, “The CCEPP Grant will be utilized to explore the viability of these solutions and how they could be used to support additional clean energy opportunities at the landfill.”

The CCEPP grant solicitation details are available here.
