City seeks volunteers for annual Creeks to Coast Cleanup

Volunteers wanted for annual Creeks to Coast Clean-Up Day

Volunteers will help remove litter and collect data to prevent debris from reaching the ocean

    – The City of Paso Robles is calling on community members to participate in the 2024 SLO County Creeks to Coast Cleanup event on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Larry Moore Park. This event, formerly known as Coastal Cleanup Day and Creek Day, is organized by EcoSLO in collaboration with the Central Coast Partners for Water Quality and has expanded its efforts to address trash and debris across the county.

The cleanup is part of a countywide initiative aimed at improving water quality and preserving the Central Coast’s natural beauty from inland creeks to the sea. Volunteers will help remove litter and collect data to prevent debris from reaching the ocean.

“Since 2019, we’ve been combining efforts to bring the entire SLO County community together to clean our beautiful watersheds and coastline,” a representative of EcoSLO said in a press release, “Last year, we removed nearly 5,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches, waterways, and lakes.”

Volunteers of all ages are welcome to join, and while prior registration is not required, it is recommended to ensure adequate supplies. Participants can register online through EcoSLO’s Sign Up Genius link to secure their spot and receive event details, including site maps and waivers.

The event will take place at Larry Moore Park in Paso Robles on Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers are encouraged to bring reusable gloves, bags or buckets, and water bottles to minimize environmental impact. Cleanup supplies will be provided on-site. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and clothing suitable for outdoor work.

For more information, including parking details and FAQs, visit the EcoSLO website. Those interested in becoming a Cleanup Site Captain can contact Ellie, EcoSLO’s volunteer coordinator, at ellie@ecoslo.org.
