Obituary of Dneva Harris Waters, 87

    Dneva Harris Waters.

    – Dneva Harris Waters was born in Sandersville, GA on May 1, 1937, to the late Snolia Harris Latimore and Ezel Dawson. She and her family moved to Steelton, Penn., where she spent her formative years. In 1962, she, her husband, and her daughter headed to California where she lived until her passing.

She was a faithful servant of God and a member of the Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church in Pomona, Calif. where she served as a deaconess, church mother, and led the community services and food bank ministries. After moving to Atascadero, she joined the Second Baptist Church in Paso Robles, where she continued serving God’s people.

She enjoyed cooking, traveling, and researching family history. Family was the cornerstone of her life. She traveled across the United States to gather family information as far back as the early 1800s. Her door was always open to family and friends. She cared for her nieces, nephews, and their families providing clothing, shelter, food, and good old “Aunt Dee” love and advice. She ruled with a firm hand and a heart of gold. She retired from the City of Los Angeles Police Department.

On Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, at eighty-seven years of age, she transitioned to eternal life. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Vicki Anderson, and grandson, Joel Michael Anderson II.

She leaves to cherish her life and loving memories, her husband of 71 years, Richard Waters of Atascadero; sister, Mildred Grant of Pomona, Calif.; brother, Martin Latimore, Sr. of Steelton, Pebb. Dedicated caregivers, nephew, Martin Grant, Sr., Atascadero; great-niece, Markesha Grant Tatum, San Mateo, Calif.; a special niece, Sonya Costen, Fort Washington, Maryland and a host of relatives and friends.
