Walk/run Fiscalini Ranch Trail to support global polio eradication

Event aims to raise awareness and funds to help fight polio worldwide

    – Cambria Rotary will host a 5K Walk/Run for Polio on Saturday, Oct. 19, along the Fiscalini Ranch Trail. The event aims to raise awareness and funds to help fight polio worldwide, particularly in light of the recent polio outbreak in the Gaza Strip.

The threat of polio is increasing in Gaza, with one confirmed case and several others suspected, according to the Rotary club. The virus was detected in wastewater across six locations in July. On Aug. 16, the Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed that a 10-month-old child in Gaza, who was unvaccinated, contracted polio and is now paralyzed. Aid orgaanizations are calling for an urgent pause in the ongoing conflict to ramp up vaccinations and prevent a wider outbreak.

“Now, more than ever, it’s important to end polio,” said organizers of the event. “We walk and run for those who can’t, especially the children in Gaza who have already suffered so much.”

Participants in the event will walk or run the scenic Fiscalini Ranch Trail, which runs along the Pacific Ocean. The trail provides a chance for participants to enjoy nature while supporting efforts to eradicate polio, a disease that continues to affect children worldwide.

Event registration and donations are being accepted at CambriaRotaryFundraiser.org. For more information, contact Sue Robinson at (805) 748-2175 or sueincambria@gmail.com.
