Award to be presented at Hispanic Heritage Festival
– Mujeres de Acción has named Laura Camacho Perez as the recipient of its inaugural Hispanic of the Year honor. The non-profit, which supports Latina causes in San Luis Obispo County, will present the award during the 3rd annual Hispanic Heritage Festival on Sunday at Downtown Park in Paso Robles. The event runs from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The award recognizes contributions by Hispanic residents in the county who have significantly impacted the community, including entrepreneurs, teachers, mentors, first responders, and community service providers.
“She is always helping our non-English speaking families understand what their children are going through in school,” the winning nomination reads. “With complex platforms like Aries, managing appointments, and understanding teacher expectations, having someone like Laura is a huge help.”
Camacho, who has lived in San Luis Obispo County for over 30 years after emigrating from La Piedad, Michoacán, has been actively serving the community for the past decade. In addition to raising a family, she runs a local restaurant.
“Hispanic families like Laura’s are the backbone of our region, making our communities sustainable while raising the next generation,” said Yessenia Echevarria, executive director of Mujeres de Acción. “We’re thrilled to give her this award and are excited to see what she does next in our community.”
The Hispanic of the Year Award will be presented at 6:20 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, during the festival at Paso Robles Downtown Park. The event is open to the public and will feature food, retail, and non-profit vendors.
