– A fatal single-vehicle rollover crash occurred on Highway 58 east of Highway 229 near Santa Margarita early this morning around 1 a.m., according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.
The San Luis Obispo Communications Center received an automatic cellular 911 notification of the traffic collision at approximately 1:30 p.m. California Highway Patrol units were dispatched to investigate.
The crash involved a 1997 Ford F-150 with a single female occupant from Nipomo, California. When crews arrived at the scene she was found pinned inside the pickup truck. The 21-year-old driver was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
According to the CHP report, speed appears to have been the main cause of the crash, and failure to use a seatbelt likely contributed to the extent of injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
It is currently unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are available at this time.
