Construction begins on San Simeon Pier
Construction is expected to last approximately eight months
– California State Parks announced it will begin repairs on the San Simeon Pier this week at Hearst San Simeon State Park. The project aims to address key structural and safety upgrades to the pier, ensuring it remains a safe and enjoyable destination for visitors. The construction is expected to last approximately eight months, depending on weather and tidal conditions. A portion of the beach parking lot will be used to store construction equipment, but beach access will remain open, primarily north of the pier.
The work will include the replacement of all missing and deteriorated piles, which are part of the pier’s foundation, with fiberglass-reinforced polymer pipe piles for long-term durability. Damaged or deteriorated bracing and stringers, which help stabilize the pier, will be repaired or replaced. The curb rail, railing, and decking will be fully replaced, and a new water line will be installed, although fish-cleaning sinks will not be restored. Marine wildlife monitoring will be conducted throughout construction to ensure there are no disturbances to the local marine sanctuary or protected species.
The total cost of the project is estimated at $4.5 million and will be carried out by contractor Cushman Contracting Corporation of Goleta.
