Local winery proprietor nominated for ‘Person of the Year’ by top wine publication
Wine Enthusiast highlighted Jason Haas’s commitment to sustainability and industry equality
– Wine Enthusiast Magazine has nominated Jason Haas, proprietor of Tablas Creek Vineyard, for its Person of the Year Award as part of the annual Wine Star Awards.
The announcement was made on Sept. 23, with Haas recognized for his contributions to the wine industry. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Wine Star Awards, which honor individuals and companies making significant contributions to the wine and beverage industry. The awards are among the highest honors in the international wine community.
Wine Enthusiast highlighted Haas’s commitment to sustainability and industry equality in its announcement, stating, “Jason Haas is determined to lead by example when it comes to planning for the future of wine, from looking at how to combat inequality in the industry to implementing sustainable agriculture. Through his work at Tablas Creek, Haas has had a hand in projects to help reduce shipping emissions through lighter bottles and many other initiatives in and out of the vineyard.”
“It’s a huge honor to be nominated alongside industry titans from around the world,” Haas says, “I think of this as recognition for the amazing work that my team here at Tablas Creek has done over the last three decades. I’m excited for the focus that it brings to Paso Robles, both through my nomination and the fact that my friend Joel Peterson, the executive director of the Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance, was nominated for ‘Wine Executive of the Year.'”
The 2024 Wine Star Award winners will be announced on Nov. 14.
Tablas Creek Vineyard, established in the limestone hills of western Paso Robles in 1989 by the Perrin Family of Château de Beaucastel and Robert Haas of Vineyard Brands, is committed to regenerative organic and biodynamically farmed wines from grape varieties traditional to France’s Rhône Valley. The winery has introduced nine new grape varieties to American grape-growing through its nursery program, pioneered lightweight and low-carbon packaging, and, in 2020, became the first winery in the world to achieve Regenerative Organic Certified status.
