After one million miles, SLORTA retires bus #149

    SLORTA
David “Hawk” Field writes well-wishes on San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority Bus #149, which retired Wednesday after transporting passengers for 20 years. The bus traveled over one million miles in San Luis Obispo County. Field, who goes by the nickname Hawk, is a driver for SLORTA. He says he drove #149 himself over one thousand times.

SLORTA parked the bus next to the San Luis Obispo County Government Center so well-wishers could write messages on the side of the vehicle. The bus first went into operation in 1995. It climbed the Cuesta Grade hundreds of times and traveled thousands of miles through the North County.
