UC Master Gardeners host free workshop at Centennial Park
Workshop to be held Oct. 12 at 10 a.m.
– The UC Master Gardeners of San Luis Obispo County are hosting a free community workshop, “Fall Garden Prep for Spring Garden Success,” at the Demonstration Garden in Centennial Park on Oct. 12. The workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at 600 Nickerson Dr. Following the event, the garden will be open for the public to explore and discuss their own gardening projects with Master Gardeners. Registration is available at ucanr.edu/sites/mgslo/, with preference given to those who pre-register.
The workshop will cover techniques for invigorating garden soil, reducing plant diseases and pests, pruning shrubs and trees, maintaining garden tools, and preparing irrigation systems for the winter.
The Centennial Park Demonstration Garden is a collaboration between the City of Paso Robles and the University of California Regents for the UC Master Gardener Program of San Luis Obispo County. The garden aims to demonstrate water conservation practices, support local gardeners, and donate food to a local pantry.
The demonstration garden includes eight plots showcasing various gardening techniques, including trees, grapes, and berries, lawn alternatives, kitchen gardens, pollinator-friendly landscapes, bulb gardens, composting, California natives, and succulents/fire safety. Each plot models low-water use gardening practices.
“The demonstration garden offers a beautiful place to host this free community workshop and engage with home gardeners who have questions or want to learn more about gardening,” said Maria Murrietta, program coordinator for the UC Master Gardener Program of San Luis Obispo County.
