Los Angeles Chargers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh Confident Justin Herbert is On Road to Recovery

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has provided an update on star quarterback Justin Herbert, with the 26-year-old edging back to full fitness following his ankle injury, which he suffered during his team’s week two victory over the Carolina Panthers.

Herbert then failed to complete practice duties ahead of the Chargers trip to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he then suffered a setback during the third quarter of their 20-10 loss, leaving Harbaugh’s side at 2-1 for the season.

Last season, the Chargers suffered a horrendous 5-12 campaign, which led to Harbaugh’s appointment, and thus far, things seem to be moving in the right direction.

Clearly, the key to their progress is having Herbert on board on a consistent basis. Los Angeles is now in a tricky situation where they’d love to be able to rest their starting QB in order to help him fully recover while knowing that a lengthy layoff could negatively impact their season.

Chargers fans who are happy with how Harbaugh has set their team up in 2024 and who want to back their team with a bet can make good use of these key insights and offers related to the best betting sites in the USA; with this information being invaluable for those seeking out the best payout possible.

Herbert is in his fifth season at the SoFi Stadium, having been drafted sixth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. The 2021 Pro Bowl pick enjoyed his strongest and most consistent season in 2022, leading the team to the postseason, where the Chargers were edged out by the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-30 in the Wild Card playoffs.

Harbaugh discussed his injury issues, stating,

“Justin did had x-rays (they were) negative and an MRI on Monday, and it showed that he’s progressing,”

Before Herbert also commented on his progress,

“I threw around a little bit,”

“I did some 7-on-7 and some drills like that.”

He’s not the only player feeling the strain of the early season, with Harbaugh also seeing Left tackle Rashawn Slater out, Joe Alt and Joey Bosa also out of action. Following his side’s 17-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Harbaugh made it clear that his defense needs to better protect Herbert,

“We’ve got to get Justin another half-second, second, we really do,”

“I mean, he’s trying to get the ball out as fast as he possibly can, and he is. And like I said, some of those throws that he made, I mean I don’t have the adjective for it. It’s warrior-like; it’s everything within his human power, and then some, is the way I look at it. It’s incredible what he can do. We do need to get him more [time], just another second.”

This is Harbaugh’s first season in the hot seat of the Chargers, and having started with back-to-back wins over the Raiders and the Panthers, he will be disappointed at the way they then lost to the Steelers and the Chiefs, leaving them 2-2 ahead of their bye week.
