Letter: City council candidate commended for sustainability efforts
To the editor,
– I am writing in support of the candidacy of Kris Beal for Paso Robles City Council. I had the privilege of working with her while serving on the Board of Directors of the Central Coast Vineyard Team. Those who are not familiar with the works of the Vineyard Team may not realize what a gem Kris is. She is excellent at building coalitions among various groups. She does an amazing job of grant writing. She is persuasive without being pushy.
During her tenure as the Executive Director of the Central Coast Vineyard Team, she greatly expanded the influence of the non-profit organization. Initially, under a slightly different name, the group focused mainly on growers’ issues and sustainability in Paso Robles. But Kris was able to establish a questionnaire that was ultimately used statewide by growers. The purpose of the questionnaire was to allow growers to assess themselves and determine where they could improve. Without putting pressure on people, Kris was able to persuade growers to adopt new practices that would be beneficial to themselves, their employees, and their land.
I really can’t praise Kris Beal enough! Her work ethic is admirable, but her ability to move the needle in areas of concern cannot be overestimated. For those of you in her district who have not gotten to know her, I hope you will take the opportunity to do so. She deserves your support.
