Two dozen wave campaign signs to honking cars

    – Members of The Paso Robles Democratic Club rallied Friday afternoon on Spring Street at the Downtown City Park.

About two dozen residents participated, holding campaign signs and waving to passersby on the crowded street. “We’re out here to be loud and proud about who we’re supporting this election,” said Elena Garcia, vice president of the club.

Signs supported Democrats Vice-President Kamala Harris, Congressman Jimmy Panetta, State Senator John Laird, and Assemblywoman Dawn Addis.

Several drivers slowed down to show support. “The reception has been mixed,” Garcia said. “We’ve gotten some fingers and thumbs down, but for the most part a lot of honking. People are excited.”

“We hear all the time that this is such a conservative area, but we beg to differ,” she said. “I think it’s a little more purple and leaning liberal these days and we’re proud of it.”

She said the club is not endorsing any local candidates for the Paso Robles City Council or the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees.

The club recently opened an office at 1426 Spring Street in downtown Paso Robles. Garcia says the club has 174 local members.
