Is California’s Continued Denial of Online Gambling Good News for Paso Robles Casino, Bar & Lounge?

The autonomy for states to decide on their own gambling regulations has resulted in a fragmented gambling industry that can be challenging to keep up with. California remains one of the most regulated states, with online gambling still prohibited.
California’s current gambling laws allow cardrooms, the state lottery, charitable gaming, parimutuel horse race wagering, and Indian Casinos.
The PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act) was repealed in 2018 which allowed states to vote on whether they wanted to introduce sports betting markets to their jurisdictions.
The most recent attempts to bring online gambling to California came in 2022 when Proposition 27 sought permission to launch online sports books. This came at the same time as Proposition 26 which attempted to legalize sports gambling with land-based operators.
Both of these proposals were rejected and there are no current plans for online sports books or casinos to be put forward anytime soon. This leaves consumers looking for online casinos in California with offshore operations as their only option at present. These sites are offshore in the sense that they’re regulated abroad, meaning they don’t need to abide by the same laws as US-based casinos. They are licensed by foreign gambling commissions, which ensures that gamblers are provided with a safe and secure experience.
However, the continued denial of state-regulated iGaming in California could be considered good news for the Paso Robles Casino, Bar & Lounge located on Black Oak Drive. The boutique casino offers a variety of gaming tables and a unique gaming experience in an intimate setting. The lack of California-based online gambling sites allows Paso Robles to offer somewhat of a unique experience in the form of state-regulated gambling facilities. This, arguably, makes the casino more appealing to Californian gamblers.
States that have pushed through legislation have faced opposition from existing operators who have concerns that consumers might turn away from the in-person gambling experience for the convenience of online alternatives.
Online casinos are a rarity in the U.S. with only West Virginia, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Connecticut having licensed operations. Sports betting is far more widespread and has helped states make the most of lucrative revenue streams and gives them far greater powers to protect their citizens.
If any online gambling is to get the go-ahead in California, it will likely be sports betting. However, any propositions will have to ensure they get the proper support before they are made.
One of the main reasons why gambling legislation is passed is so states can benefit from the revenue generated. California’s tribal casino industry is already estimated to generate approximately $10 billion, with some of this money going toward community and charity projects.
The online gambling industry in the U.S. has a value of more than $11.6 billion and is projected to grow significantly over the coming years. This growth will come from improving gambling sites, connectivity, and mobile devices, as well as more states passing legislation to allow operations.
In the meantime, Californian consumers can enjoy the fun and excitement of a night out at their local casino, with the Paso Robles Casino also offering great drinking and dining experiences.
