Sheriff’s office seeks donations for Christmas Bicycle Giveaway
The sheriff’s office is asking for donations of new bicycles, new helmets, or monetary contributions to help purchase replacement parts
– The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is seeking donations for its annual Christmas Bicycle Giveaway, now in its 35th year. Since 1989, the sheriff’s office has been giving away refurbished bicycles and new helmets to children in need throughout the county during the holiday season.
The program is run through the Sheriff’s Office Honor Farm, where inmates repair donated bicycles that need maintenance. The effort aims to promote the holiday spirit while providing children with bicycles. Inmates involved in the program gain a positive work ethic, self-respect, and a sense of contributing to the community.
The sheriff’s office is asking for donations of new bicycles, new helmets, or monetary contributions to help purchase replacement parts. While adult bicycles are accepted, children’s bicycles are in higher demand.
Those who know a child in need, up to 15 years of age, can visit slosheriff.org and apply through the Community Resources section of the website. All applications must be submitted by Nov. 21.
This year’s Christmas Bicycle Giveaway is scheduled for Dec. 12 at 9 a.m.
The Sheriff’s Office extends thanks to the Sheriff’s Advisory Foundation, Bike SLO County, The SLO Bike Club, The Sandlot Group of San Luis Obispo, San Luis Garbage, Rita’s Rainbows, and the County of San Luis Obispo Health Agency for their continued support of the program.
Donations of children’s bicycles or new helmets in original packaging can be dropped off at any Sheriff’s Office Patrol station or the Honor Farm on Highway 1. Monetary contributions for bikes, parts, or helmets can be sent to:
