Paso Robles school celebrates Hispanic heritage with annual fiesta
Georgia Brown event highlights bilingual education, cultural awareness
– Georgia Brown Dual Immersion hosted its annual Fiesta de Octubre event, celebrating cultural diversity and bilingual education within its community. The festival took place last Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the school’s new campus at 900 Creston Road. This year’s event concluded Hispanic Heritage Month with an immersive experience highlighting the school’s commitment to bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural education.
“We were thrilled to celebrate Fiesta de Octubre with our community,” said Principal Cristina Velasco. “Students had spent the last four weeks learning the rich history and cultural contributions of Hispanic countries across the globe. The festival provides a space to bring that learning to life!”
The event featured a baile folklórico performance by students and community members, along with arts and crafts stations and a display of student projects, including a Storybook Pumpkin Patch. The Georgia Brown Dad’s Club organized a hamburger dinner fundraiser for the event.
Georgia Brown Dual Immersion, founded in 1998, aims to foster academic excellence through a dual-language curriculum. The school’s mission focuses on promoting cultural awareness and fluency in both English and Spanish, empowering students to thrive in a globalized world.
