The gathering was filled with an atmosphere of love and unity, as those who knew Pinion shared stories and displayed personal photographs on a memory board. Guests were encouraged to wear vibrant colors or clothing that had been gifted or made by Pinion, a gesture that added a personal and unique touch to the event.

Pinion had described himself in a social media profile as an empath, sound healer, writer, arts and crafts creator, and singer. “Love is great,” he added.

One of Todd’s best friends, Christian Kennedy, painted a memorial rock.

The memorial was filled with tables covered in memorabilia, and a slideshow played throughout the afternoon, showcasing images of his life. The gathering was informal, with friends sharing meals and reminiscing about his impact on their lives. Attendees spoke about his creative spirit, his love for nature, and the deep connections he forged in the community.

Pinion, 34, was reported missing at the end of October, leading to an extensive search led by his family, friends, and local authorities. His body was found a week ago in a remote area near Tassajara Creek, and his dog, Spock, was found dead along the Cuesta Grade.

Paso Robles resident Tyler Stevens, 21, was arrested for killing Pinion and his dog with a knife. Stevens is being held in San Luis Obispo County Jail and made his first court appearance on Wednesday.

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office has alleged that Stevens’ actions were motivated by Pinion’s “actual or perceived sexual orientation,” and has added a hate crime enhancement to the murder and animal abuse charges.

A Meal Train fundraiser has been set up by friends and family to support Pinion’s loved ones.
