Christmas at the Ranch expands with new activities, attractions
Disneyland train car stars at Santa Margarita holiday event
– The historic Santa Margarita Ranch will host its second annual “Christmas at the Ranch” event from Nov. 29 through Dec. 22, offering nine weekends of holiday-themed festivities.
Proceeds from the event will benefit AGM Community Partners and Vintage Traditions Foundation. Tickets, which are $40 for general admission, $25 for children ages 3 to 12, and free for children 2 and younger, must be purchased online in advance at www.ChristmasattheMargarita.com. Organizers expect tickets to sell out.
The event begins with an authentic steam locomotive ride, featuring open-air cars and a train that includes three cars used at Disneyland’s opening in 1955. One of the cars has been restored to its original condition after an 11-month restoration project.
“Attendees will get to see what the train car looked like when it was new on Disneyland’s opening day in 1955,” said Steve Rossi, co-founder and coordinator of the event.
The nearly two-mile train ride will take visitors past illuminated holiday displays before arriving at Santa’s Village. Activities at the village include caroling, a visit with Santa, a magic show, food trucks, face painting, and games like cornhole and roping. Attendees can also enjoy fire-roasted s’mores, pony rides, a “letters to Santa” station, and holiday-themed beverages, including coffees and craft cocktails.
A railroad hand car will be available for guests to try out on a short section of track. New this year is the Christmas Vendor Marketplace, which will feature artisanal goods, including jewelry, leather products, and candles. Firepits and both indoor and outdoor seating will be available throughout the venue.
Rossi said organizers have expanded food truck options and introduced late-afternoon train rides to accommodate families with young children.
“My wife and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to create a Central Coast event where families can have a relaxing evening and feel the excitement as the Christmas spirit unfolds,” Rossi said.
The event will be held at the historic Santa Margarita Ranch, located between Atascadero and San Luis Obispo.
