Mittens.
Sweet, smart Mittens gets along wonderfully with other dogs, has already learned basic commands
– Mittens, a 10-to-12-week-old Border Collie mix, is available for adoption through Novy’s Ark Dog Rescue and Adoption. Her journey has been remarkable, overcoming a severe upper respiratory infection that turned into double pneumonia after being rescued from the Kern County shelter.
“Mittens was the sickest of her siblings, but even then, she was so sweet and gentle,” said Anouk Novy, owner of Novy’s Ark. “She’s incredibly smart and very trainable. From the day she arrived, she mastered the dog door and hasn’t had a single accident.”
In addition to her intelligence, Mittens gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has already learned basic commands like “sit.” She’s expected to grow into a medium-sized dog and is awaiting DNA test results to confirm her breed mix.
The shelter identified Mittens as less likely to be adopted because of her black coat—a common challenge known as “black dog syndrome.”
