Local shop to donate part of sales over weekend to homeless shelter
Store traditionally forgoes discounts and instead directs a portion of its sales to charity
– General Store Paso Robles will donate 10% of all in-store purchases made during Thanksgiving Weekend to El Camino Homeless Shelter, a local nonprofit that supports individuals and families in San Luis Obispo County. The store, which is celebrating its twelfth holiday season on the park, traditionally forgoes discounts and instead directs a portion of its sales to charity.
This year, the funds will go toward housewarming baskets for the shelter’s clients who secure housing. The baskets include essentials such as fresh towels, toiletries, and cleaning supplies. In 2024, the shelter has assisted more than 300 individuals and families with stable housing, including 72 people who avoided homelessness with the shelter’s help.
“Our customers are already enthusiastic about shopping local and supporting our neighbors, whether it’s those who make honey, soap, or write children’s books,” said Jillian, one of the three owners of the downtown store. “By offering this donation on our biggest weekend of the year, we hope to give people another way to keep our community strong and special.”
Co-owner Erin added, “We’ve been a part of the meal team at ECHO once a month for over five years, and every time we are on campus, we see the tangible, sustainable, thoughtful work that ECHO does. One of our passions is feeding people, so it’s an easy choice for us.”
General Store Paso Robles will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday during Thanksgiving Weekend. The store is open daily through the holidays. For more information, follow them on Instagram at @generalstorepaso or visit generalstorepr.com.
