Paso Robles pair arrested with ‘Molotov cocktail’ in arson case

Paso Robles residents accused of attempted arson in SLO
– The San Luis Obispo Police Department arrested two Paso Robles residents following an attempted arson incident reported on Dec. 4 at 10:52 p.m. According to police, a reporting party contacted authorities to report that 26-year-old Rachel Tomassi was threatening to harm a female acquaintance. The reporting party provided a description of Tomassi and her vehicle.
Officers responded to the 1700 block of Corralitos, where the female was staying. Upon arrival, officers found a small fire burning in the street and observed a vehicle matching the description of Tomassi’s leaving the area. Officers extinguished the fire and discovered a bottle filled with gasoline near the front door of the residence. Police determined that the fire was likely started by a makeshift wick that fell from the bottle as it was being thrown at the residence.
Officers located and stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Osos and Buchon. They identified the occupants as Tomassi and 19-year-old Kamakani Huihui, both Paso Robles residents. During the investigation, officers found an unused “Molotov cocktail” bottle similar to the one found at the residence. San Luis Obispo police detectives responded to the scene and gathered additional evidence.
Tomassi and Huihui were arrested and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail. Both face charges of attempted arson, conspiracy, possession of explosives or flammable matter, and possession of a destructive device. All charges are felonies.
Bail for Tomassi and Huihui has been set at $300,000 each. They remain in custody at the time of this report.
