Detectives seized evidence for forensic examination and found more than 1,500 images of child sexual abuse material

    – Police have arrested a San Luis Obispo man on charges of rape and possession of child sexual abuse material, according to a press release from the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

On Oct. 27, a woman contacted the police department to report that she had been raped on Oct. 24 at a residence in the 1900 block of Santa Barbara Street in San Luis Obispo. The victim identified the suspect as David Randall Quintero, 36, of San Luis Obispo. Police said Quintero was already under investigation by the department’s Detective Bureau for an unrelated case involving possession of child pornography.

As part of the investigations, detectives obtained search and arrest warrants. On Nov. 21 at 8:20 a.m., detectives executed both warrants at Quintero’s residence. He was arrested and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail.

During the search, detectives seized evidence for forensic examination and found more than 1,500 images of child sexual abuse material, police said. Following the investigation, the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office charged Quintero with two felony crimes: Possession of child sexual abuse material, and rape of an unconscious person.

Quintero remains in custody with bail set at $400,000.

Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact Sgt. Trevor Shalhoob of the San Luis Obispo Police Investigations Bureau at (805) 594-8057.
