Letter: Clarifying former candidate’s non-involvement in homeless services
Dear Mr. Pinder,
RE: Column: Former city council candidate Linda George stirs drama with latest maneuver.
I wanted to reach out to you on behalf of Paso Cares Homeless Services. In the article mentioned above, it states:
“In a magnanimous gesture worthy of all philanthropists, Ms. George makes her claim on behalf of “we the people of Paso Robles,” demanding $500,000 for personal injury and $1.5 million to “purchase the casino on Black Oak corner for job skills/thrift store/Paso Cares kitchen.” All paid for by, you guessed it, ‘we the people,’ otherwise known as taxpayers.”
As a journalist, I know that accuracy is of the utmost importance to the work you do. Knowing this I would like to ensure that you are aware that Paso Cares Homeless Services is not working with Linda George on a kitchen or otherwise in her efforts to sue the City of Paso Robles.
Is a retraction of this statement too much to ask, as we want to assure our donors that we are in no way a party to this issue, or person.
Respectfully,
Mary Booker
President Paso Cares

Ms. Booker, with apologies for any misunderstanding but I am unsure why you believe a retraction from myself or The Paso Robles Daily News is required. “We the people” is a direct quote from Ms. George’s $2million claim against The City. Apparently Ms. George believes she speaks on behalf of the community when she asks for $1.5m from the taxpayer to buy a building for the homeless. Perhaps the retraction you seek should come from her? I have no doubt that Paso Cares is more judicious in your use of funds in the outstanding work you do on behalf of the community. Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly if you have any further questions or concerns and thank you for all the good work you and your organization do for the homeless.
