High surf warning issued for Central Coast
Large waves, flooding risk prompt Oceano Dunes camping warning
– A high surf warning is set to take effect Sunday, with waves expected to peak between 18 and 25 feet on Monday and Tuesday mornings along the Central Coast, according to reports and the National Weather Service.
The warning highlights the increased risk of coastal flooding and dangerous conditions for beachgoers. The National Weather Service urged visitors to stay off rocks and jetties and avoid areas near the surf zone.
In a post on social media dated Dec. 21, the National Weather Service warned campers at Oceano Dunes to stay as far away from large waves as possible. “There will be an increased risk of beach/motorhome flooding during times of high tide, especially Mon night as very large damaging surf is predicted,” the post stated.
High surf advisories are expected to remain in effect through next week. The National Weather Service cautioned that coastal flooding of beach roads and parking lots may occur during high tide periods.
If camping at Oceano Dunes the next few days, it is urged to stay as far away from large waves as possible. There will be an increased risk of beach/ motorhome flooding during times of high tide, especially Mon night as very large damaging surf is predicted. #SLOWeather #cawx
