Obituary of George Edward Wilkins, 90

    George Edward Wilkins.

    – On Nov. 8, 2024, a national treasure, George Edward Wilkins, passed from this earth to be with family and friends in heaven. George was born March 1, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan to Nancy Viola McMillian and was later adopted by his loving forever parents, Frederick and Dorothy Wilkins. He grew up with a love for music that developed over the years into a life-long passion.

Through his music career, George delighted and inspired people of all ages. His musical journey began with childhood piano lessons and listening to Broadway albums on weekends with his dad.

His talent and interest in music grew into a long and varied career as a singer, composer, arranger, and producer. His work spanned radio, television variety shows, animated films, Las Vegas shows, animatronic toys, and theme parks. George was sometimes referred to as “the foremost composer of singing animals.”

George’s many career accomplishments are detailed on his Wikipedia page.

In addition to music, George had several great loves. He was an avid golfer, often regaling friends and family with tales of victory and defeat. He built a woodworking shop in his home and was meticulous about every aspect of a project, making furniture as well as doing projects around the house.

Every morning, he joined several of his best friends for coffee, a time he treasured and would seldom miss. George loved daily walks with his dogs and enjoyed their companionship as much as any family member. Above all, he loved his wife, Kim, to whom he gave his entire heart.

George’s talents, dedicated friendship, and knack for storytelling reached countless people of all ages and backgrounds over his many decades with us, and he will be missed.

He is survived by his wife Kim Wilkins; his sister Ruth Wilkins; his daughter Amy Wilkins and her daughter Isabel Lyon; his son Christopher Wilkins, his wife Maylynn, and their children Oliver, Eliza, and Julian; and his son Jonathan Wilkins. He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Wilkins, and his sister, Monita Wilkins.
