Wellsona Road safety project construction begins Jan. 14
Undercrossing will be located beneath U.S. 101, south of the existing intersection
– Construction on a safety improvement project at the intersection of U.S. 101 and Wellsona Road will begin Tuesday, Jan. 14. The project includes building an undercrossing and a frontage road to improve safety and reduce collisions, according to a press release from Cal Trans.
The undercrossing will be located beneath U.S. 101, south of the existing intersection, allowing motorists to avoid making left turns across traffic. The new undercrossing will feature a 112-foot-long bridge. A frontage road will connect the undercrossing to Wellsona Road on both sides of the highway.
The initial phase of construction involves creating a median crossover on U.S. 101. During this phase, two lanes in each direction will remain open. A detour will be provided for bicyclists, and the San Paso Truck Stop will remain open and accessible throughout the project.
The $12.2 million project, awarded to CalPortland Construction of Santa Maria, is expected to be completed in early 2026.
