    – A man accused of posing as a rideshare app driver and targeting young women near Cal Poly University was arrested on Jan. 15, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

Authorities said a college-aged woman reported to police on Jan. 13 that she was sexually assaulted over the weekend by a man posing as a rideshare driver. During the investigation, detectives discovered a second college-aged woman had also encountered the suspect. While the second woman was not sexually assaulted, she was allegedly held against her will in the suspect’s vehicle. Both incidents occurred in neighborhoods near the university.

Using information provided by one of the victims, including a description of the suspect and his vehicle, detectives identified the suspect as Angel Munoz Quintana, 29, of Nipomo. Police arrested him at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Jan. 15. He was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on multiple felony charges, including:

    • Two counts of felony kidnapping (Penal Code 207)
    • Felony false imprisonment (Penal Code 236)
    • Felony oral copulation by use of force (Penal Code 287(c)(2)(A))
    • Felony assault with intent to commit rape (Penal Code 220(a)(1))

Munoz Quintana’s bail was set at $1.2 million.

Police expressed concern there may be additional victims. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Magana at (805) 594-8025.
