Vegetation control work starts Tuesday on Highway 229

Project is expected to be completed by mid-February

    – Caltrans will begin vegetation control work on State Route 229 on Tuesday, Jan. 21. The project will take place between the intersection of State Route 229 and State Route 58 and just south of Rocky Canyon Road.

The work, scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., will involve one-way traffic control. The project is expected to be completed by mid-February.

The vegetation control is part of California’s Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan to reduce wildfire risk along the state highway system. The project involves removing dead and dying brush and ladder fuels to disrupt fuel continuity.

C.T.L. Forest Management, Inc. of Cameron Park is the contractor for the $850,000 fuel reduction plan.

Traffic delays are not expected to exceed 20 minutes. Drivers are advised to be aware of flaggers and highway workers in the area.
