Paso Robles High choir to perform at Carnegie Hall
Student choir prepares for New York City performance
– The Paso Robles High School choir has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City in April. The opportunity follows a special invitation from Scott Glysson, director of choral activities at Cal Poly University, and Bradley Miller, director of choral activities at Regis University.
Glysson and Miller will lead the 2025 Carnegie Hall season residency, conducting a performance on April 6 that will feature the Paso Robles High School choir alongside the New England Symphonic Ensemble and soloists.
The concert program includes Handel’s Zadok the Priest, HWV 258, Let Thy Hand Be Strengthened, HWV 259, and The King Shall Rejoice, HWV 260, conducted by Glysson. Miller will lead a performance of Taylor Scott Davis’s Magnificat. The Paso Robles High School choir will participate in both works.
“Performing at Carnegie Hall is something to which every musician dreams of one day achieving,” Glysson said. “To stand in the place where Tchaikovsky, Dvořák, Mahler, Gershwin, Billie Holiday, Benny Goodman, Judy Garland, The Beatles, and so many more have performed is indeed a life-changing experience. Only the best get this opportunity, and Paso Robles High School has earned this opportunity through their hard work and dedication.”
Funding from Proposition 28, fundraising efforts, and local donations have brought the choir close to its fundraising goal. Major donors include the Paso Robles Education Alliance, Derby Wine Estates, Kathy and Joe O’Donnel, Noreen Martin, and the Paso Robles Rotary.
The choir has partnered with The Backyard on Thirteenth for a benefit event on Feb. 2. The event will feature live music by Take Three and help raise funds for the remaining expenses for the trip.
