– The Paso Robles Senior Center will join card players across the country in celebrating National Cribbage Day on Monday, Feb. 10.
Cribbage, one of the oldest frequently played card games, was created by Sir John Suckling in the early 17th century and is derived from the old English game “noddy.” While the exact date of its creation is unknown, National Cribbage Day is observed on Suckling’s birthday.
Millions of Americans play cribbage with family and friends at home or in social clubs. The most common variant is played with two players, using a cribbage board with pegs and 121 holes to keep score.
In Paso Robles, the senior center at 270 Scott St. hosts cribbage games every Monday and Thursday at 9 a.m. In Atascadero, cribbage is played every Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Colony Park Community Center, 6500 Palma Ave.
The American Cribbage Congress, which oversees tournaments and maintains a national ranking system, provides additional information at www.cribbage.org.
