    School district to host first-ever Black History Celebration

    The free community event will feature activities for all ages

    – The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District will host its first-ever Black History Celebration on Sunday, Feb. 16, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Paso Robles High School Performing Arts Center, located at 801 Niblick Rd.

    The free community event will feature activities for all ages, including an African mask-making workshop for children, an African drum circle, and an inspirational dance performance.

    Local author Jasmine Pickett will read from her book, The Adventures of Jaz and Lulu: Chasing the Moon. Copies will be available for purchase, and Pickett will sign books during the event.

    Students from the Paso Robles High School Black Student Union and the Cal Poly Black Student Union will participate in the celebration. Cal Poly Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Cynthia Jackson-Elmoore will deliver remarks.

    The district invites the community to attend the event for an afternoon of entertainment and celebration.

    Just curious. Will other ethnic groups be celebrated similarly at other times during the school year?

    I would like to know who is paying for this celebration? Taxpayers? This is not something that taxpayers should pay for. What is the cost and who is paying for the building?
