Truck overturns on Chimney Rock Road, spilling hazardous materials
Truck driver sustained minor injuries
– A truck carrying powdered limestone overturned on Chimney Rock Road on Monday, causing a hazardous materials spill and closing the roadway for approximately four hours, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol.
At approximately 8:35 a.m., officers responded to a report of a solo-vehicle crash east of Cypress Mountain Road. Upon arrival, officers determined that Luis Hernandezlopez, a 29-year-old resident of Bakersfield, was driving a Peterbilt truck eastbound while towing a trailer loaded with powdered limestone.
Due to unsafe speed for road conditions, Hernandezlopez failed to slow down enough for a curve, causing the truck’s tires to lose traction. The vehicle slid off the south edge of the roadway and overturned, spilling powdered limestone and diesel fuel onto the embankment.
Hernandezlopez sustained minor injuries. Officials confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Templeton Area office.
