Letter: Public encouraged to redirect spending away from billionaires
To the editor,
– I am encouraging all my fellow citizens to participate in this Friday’s economic boycott of large corporations. However, what is needed is a sustained, long-term effort in which we prioritize our spending behavior. The recent weeks have shown that Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and the other
multibillionaires do not care a whit about us.
Please consider:
1. Carefully consider discretionary expenditures. Do we really need this purchase? If we can do without, there are many in our community in need and we could donate those funds to one of the many deserving non-profits in SLO County.
2. When we do need to make a purchase, we should direct that purchase to a local vendor whenever possible. We will all be richer when we spend our resources with suppliers who live in and serve our communities.
