Mid-State Fair home brewing, winemaking competitions accepting entries

Home brewing, winemaking competitions now accepting entries for 2025

Judges to evaluate entries based on appearance, aroma, taste

    – Online registration is now open for two annual competitions hosted by the California Mid-State Fair. The Central Coast Home Winemaking Competition and the Central Coast Home Brewing Competition will both take place in May.

The Home Winemaking Competition will feature wines from San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Monterey counties. The wines will be divided into six categories: white, rosé/blanc, red, dessert, wines made from fruit other than grapes, and sparkling. Within each category, the wines will be separated into classes by varietals. A panel of local judges will evaluate the entries based on appearance, aromatics, and taste to determine the winners.

The Home Brewing Competition will showcase beer, ciders, and perries from San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. Entries will be judged based on aroma, appearance, and flavor.

Judges for both competitions are local experts with extensive knowledge and experience in the wine and beer industries. The judges, including makers, industry insiders, and experienced evaluators, will provide valuable feedback to participants.

The Home Brewing Competition registration closes on May 2, while the Home Winemaking Competition registration closes on April 18. Both competitions require online registration. For more information and registration links, visit https://www.midstatefair.com/fair/contests.php.

The 2025 California Mid-State Fair will run from July 16 through July 27. This year’s theme is “Off to the Races!”
