Obituary of Richard Herschel Caine, 79
Richard Herschel Caine 1/5/1945 – 11/18/2024
– Richard Herschel Caine was born the 6th of eight children to James Jefferson Caine & Ruth Lucille Pennycuff on Jan. 5th, 1945, in Indianapolis, Indian, and went to be with the Lord on Nov. 18th, 2024, after a long service-connected illness.
He moved to Los Angeles, California at age 6 months with his parents & siblings. He graduated from Belmont High School in 1962 and entered the Navy May 1963. After serving 4 years during the Vietnam war, Richard returned home to his family in 1967. Richard remained active in several military organizations throughout his life that reflected the pride of his service. Richard moved his family to Visalia, CA, after his military service, in search of a better life.
Richard met & fell in love with miss Tammy June Tinney in 1973 and made her his bride on March 18th, 1981. They made their home in Visalia & remained married until his death.
Richard loved riding motorcycles with his younger brother, Tommy. They were lifelong members of the Valley Cycle Assn. in Visalia, where he met many lifelong friends. He was known for his dedication to his family. He was a hard worker and accomplished anything he put his mind to. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Nat’l Rifle Assoc., The Sportsman Assn. in Visalia & was a General Contractor by trade. He was often called “McGuyver” because of his talent to fix most anything. In 2014, Richard finished up his 40-year construction career with Specialty Const. in San Luis Obispo, Ca., after a fall that broke his hip.
Preceding Richard, are those who welcomed him to heaven, his four older brothers Billie & Jimmy, both died in infancy; Welbie & Ernest; his parents James & Ruth Caine; his paternal grandparents Seaborn & Elzada Ballard Caine; maternal grandparents Jacob & Margaret Wheat Pennycuff; nephews Ricky& Scott Caine; David & Michael Barbour & sister in law’s Pamela Caine & Carol Caine.
Richard Leaves behind a loving wife of 43 years: Tammy of Visalia; 2 daughters: Raquel (James) Beasley of Visalia; Brandy (Vince) Romito of Escalon Ca.; 4 grandchildren: Anthony (Brittney) Pensotti of Visalia; Brittney (LeGary) Austin of Visalia; Gianna & Gabriella Romito of Escalon, Ca.; 2 great grandchildren; Brooklynn & Nazare Pensotti both of Visalia. Two brothers; Tommy Caine of Visalia; Jay (Diana) Caine of Fresno; one sister; Loretta (Ronnie) Snyder of Victorville, Ca.; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, including other family & the many friends he made in his life’s journey.
A special “Thank You” goes to Dept. Of Veteran’s Affairs for their medical care; Bristol Hospice who never ceased to be there when we needed them; to his granddaughter Brittney Pensotti, who dedicated endless hours to her grandpa so that he may live in comfort; to his brother, & best friend Tommy, who remained his best friend no matter what, and came when he was needed without hesitation; and to his wife for the emotional journey that was set before her and her endless dedication to the man she loved.
To honor Richard, a fallen Vietnam Veteran, military services are planned April 4th, 2025, 11 a.m. at the Visalia District Cemetery Pavilion. Burial will be with his parents. Good friend & family member, Wes Tinney will be officiating. Food, refreshments & fellowship to follow the service at the VFW Hall on Center St. in Visalia. All are welcome.
