Central Coast Writers’ Conference welcomes new director, announces opening keynote speaker

Friday keynote speaker Brooke Warner and new conference director Meagan Friberg.

Two-day event, to be held Sept. 26 and 27 at Cuesta College

    – The Cuesta College Central Coast Writers Conference (CCWC), recognized as the “Best Conference in the West” by The Writer magazine, returns Sept. 26 and 27 with new director Meagan Friberg at its helm.

Director of Community Programs and Continuing Education for Cuesta College Wes Martin expressed his enthusiasm when announcing Friberg, a local writer, as the new CCWC Director. “Meagan’s professional experience as a writer and event planner, along with her welcoming disposition and fresh ideas, will help ensure a meaningful, inclusive experience for attendees,” Martin said.

Sharing the event’s theme of “It’s Time,” Friberg says she aims to empower writers at every stage to achieve their goals. Friberg is an experienced journalist who has served as a key conference volunteer for over a decade. She holds degrees in journalism and mass communication, and is a former newspaper reporter and magazine editor who’s been published in numerous magazines, newspapers, and online sites.

“I’m excited to bring together talented professionals from the writing and business community,” Friberg said. “With the help of our dedicated volunteers and top-tier speakers, we’re creating a diverse lineup of keynotes, workshops, panels, masterclasses, and networking opportunities.”

Super Early Bird tickets are currently available for $200 through April 30 at CentralCoastWritersConference.com. Options to participate in Master Classes, and book personal “Pitch and Critique” appointments for an additional cost will be added to the site soon, as well as information on scholarship opportunities.

The Friday opening keynote speaker is Brooke Warner, publisher of She Writes Press and SparkPress and an award-winning writing coach. She is the author of Write On, Sisters!, Green-light Your Book, What’s Your Book?, and three books on memoir. She’s a TEDx speaker, weekly podcaster (of “Write-minded” with co-host Grant Faulkner of NaNoWriMo), publishes a weekly newsletter, Writerly Things, on Substack, and is a columnist for Publishers Weekly.

“Brooke Warner is a leader in the industry, a natural motivator, and a strong advocate for writers. Her expertise and passion will set the stage for an inspiring conference,” Friberg said.
